We have been truly spoiled this week! It’s not often we have the chance to get really girly, but when the hot new nail salon on the block invited us over for a chat, we just couldn’t refuse. Set slightly back from the crush of the city centre, Pastille brings a bit of femininity to the Granary Wharf area and is an oasis of calm for professionals and students alike.
With a selection of top treatments on the menu, and at a very competitive rate, everyone is welcome through the door at this sumptuous salon. You can’t miss it, as you cross the bridge into the heart of Granary Wharf the baby pinks and blues peak out at you from the huge window display – something the area has certainly never had since its redevelopment in 2009.
With a cosy, casual feel and a sea of smiling faces on their staff, their young owners seem to have the balance just right. Amazingly, Abra and Erene are just 22 and 26 years old, putting those that have dreamed of their own business into their middle age to shame! We spoke to these lovely ladies about the concept behind the brand, the file and polish experience and their canalside community…
Who are you and how did you get here?
We are Pastille, a friendly nail bar in Granary Wharf. Erene has been training as a psychotherapist and Abra has just finished a law degree and we’ve both always wanted to own our own business. With encouragement from Abra’s brother (who is also Erene’s partner!) we decided to come together to create a nail bar that offered something a bit different to what’s already in the city centre.
Erene already lived in Granary Wharf so we knew this area quite well. When this unit came up we just leapt at the chance. We wanted to create a place where people can come and relax, talk and get great treatments and this seemed like a fantastic location to be.
What’s unique about Pastille?
We wanted to bring the chatty, happy vibe of express nail bars in London to Leeds at affordable prices. There are lots of small nail bars in town where you can run in and get your nails done, but we wanted something that felt a bit less ‘conveyor belt’. It’s about the personal touches and we’ve really put our hearts and souls into this place!
We also wanted something pocket-friendly. Students get 10% discount on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and we always try and have seasonal offers so that these treatments are accessible to everyone. We have lots of male treatments too!
What can customers expect from Pastille?
We think they can expect to come and be entertained! As well as great manicures, pedicures and other beauty treatments of course. Our staff interact with customers, we love building relationships with our customers because we want you to come back. Our staff are experts in their field and so they’re always suggesting new treatments and products that they think our customers will love.
You can also expect great deals and a really tailored experience. We offer free nail health consultations to get you started and we have discounts and extra value packages suitable for every pocket.
What’s your bestselling treatment?
It’s got to be the Gel Manicure. The polish doesn’t chip and lasts for up to 3 weeks. At 24.50 it’s the best value gel manicure available in Leeds. If you really want to treat yourself then the Spa Pedicure is really popular too. It’s a full hour of pampering including a foot scrub, spa and massage for 27.
What’s your favourite treatment?
Our new semi permanent individual eyelash treatment is a big hit with us. It’s great because we don’t have to put mascara on now and anything that saves us time in the mornings is fine by us! They last 6-8 weeks and look absolutely ace.
Why do you think Leeds is so awesome?
That’s simple – the people! Leeds has loads going on but it’s less chaotic than London or Manchester. The people are friendly, there’s a real sense of community.
Where do you like to hang out apart from the salon?
We’re so lucky, we’ve got lots here in Granary Wharf. We’re always popping next door to Out of the Woods and tweeting our lunches! We sometimes have our staff meetings in LIVINitaly too – they do a great buffet on a Friday. On an evening we love Call Lane (like most of Leeds!) and we’re pleased that there are some great indie pop-ups at Trinity Kitchen.
Finally, describe Pastille in 3 words…
Fun, friendly, luxury.
